“SHQIPERIA” of Ben Blushi, a cover and advertisement campaign developed by Vatra


Mapo Editions is the newest Publishing House in Albania under the management of Mapo Media Group. Complimentary of the periodicals like Mapo Newspaper, Mapo magazine and Madame Mapo, the publishing house brings a new dimension to the readers. In the words of Henry Cili director of Mapo Publishing’s this initiative follows along the traditions of the best international media groups which besides the periodicals have their own publishing entities to approach the reader comprehensively. In the case of Mapo Editions the aim is to reach the western market and help Albanian literature expand beyond its natural cultural borders. Mapo Editions was engaged in the publishing of Ben Blushi’s new book and based on previous successful cooperation invited Vatra to design the cover of all Blushi’s publications as well as the book promotion event/reception and book fair stand. The requirement was to express visually the rich vocabulary of the writer and the sophisticated philosophy of his writings. Vatra designed a unified image for all Blushi’s books to create an identity that is easy recognizable. The cover of the book “Albania” particularly shows a reality that the book strives to depict. The cover is elaborated with elements that express ideas included in the book and messages from a past reality. The star is the center symbol of the country in those days, painted in a no plaster wall which was commonly found in every street. The paint the color the bricks and everything else tease the memories of the Albanian mind and also represent the message of the writer. Our work also followed with redesigning the two previous publications of the same author with similar style of design, so, to complete a triad of Blushi’s books as a sequel with similar identity features.
