Noval is a new pharmaceutical company established in Albania that develops, produces, and markets generic drugs. Noval provides healthcare solutions to patients and their success is built on a solid foundation: their commitment to serve responsibly and with accountability, so they can become a trustworthy partner for the wellbeing of their clients.
The pharmaceutical sector is one of the most intensely competitive industries and therefore companies need a brand identity that is strongly built and that can represent the new competitive lead as well as the possibility of extending marketing and branding strategies. Vatra was approached to create distinctive and explicit brand architectures and packaging design for Noval.
The starting process for the branding design was research and exploration of ancient medicinal herb treatments, traditions, and literature. We wanted to relate an element from nature and history with the symbol of the identity. Taking into consideration the geographical location of Albania and its centuries-old tradition of growing medicinal plants that we researched, Vatra presented a final recommendation for its brand symbol, the blossom of Gentiana Lutea. The genus name of Gentiana comes from King Gent, the last king of the Illyrian tribe of Labeatis, who are said to have recognized the effectiveness of the root of the Yellow Gentian, while Lutea (from Latin “luteus”) refers to the yellow color of the blossom. The yellow symbol and easy spelling Noval is designed with a clear and modern tendency using lowercase typeface balancing graphically the elements not in a centered position but making the “v” letter a visual support for the symbol. After defining the brand identity and stationery rules, the next step was to design and develop the packaging. The safe use of all medicines depends on users reading the labeling and packaging carefully and accurately. The primary purpose of medicine labeling and packaging should be the clear and unambiguous identification of the medicine and the conditions for its safe use. Three factors that affect all medicine users are: information - which is vital for the safe use of the medicine; format - the information presented to be easily legible by all patients and suppliers; and style - to avoid confusion between similarity in drug names and packaging. All factors were considered when designing the packaging. The graphic support part was defined by primary and secondary color combinations in regular and square shapes, highlighting the dosage information of the drug.
“We went hiring Vatra as part of a full branding project and highly recommend it. It has been an integral part of the process where our team was able to develop a mutual understanding of where we are looking to position the brand. The end result was a clearly defined brand concept that fitted with the vision, mission and structure of our business. Working with you guys is one of the best decisions we have ever made as a firm and we are really looking forward to carrying on our relationship in the future.” – Mrs. Anila Duro, General Director at Noval.
