The Council of Europe, based in Strasbourg (France), now covers virtually the entire European continent, with its 47 member countries. Founded in 1949 by 10 countries, the Council of Europe seeks to develop throughout Europe common and democratic principles based on the European Convention on Human Rights and other reference texts on the protection of individuals. Albania became a member of the Council of Europe in 1995. For the first time after almost 17 years of membership in this most important pan-European organization, Albania chaired the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers for the period of May – November 2012
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Albania contacted Vatra to develop a brand to represent Albania for this crucial period. The symbol needed to bring to light and accentuate the values of the central mission of the Committee and its character: unity.
Vatra developed the symbol based on the values and character of the Council of Europe and its slogan. “United in Diversity”. The meeting hall was an inspiration for the development of the symbol. The symbol was developed with many concentric circles to present the idea of unity, while the selected colors represent the many colors of the various national flags and the diversity of each member state. In the same time the overall shape of the symbol brings to mind the architectonic design of the meeting hall. The circles are reinforced at the center with two full circles in red and black colors which symbolize the Albanian flag, to give due attention to the country selected to chair the Committee for the period of May-November 2012. So, the brand that was developed to address in full the requirements of the project and reflects the profile of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers; the members states and their cooperation for the solution of mutual and individual issues.
