Mapo Media Group is present in Albania with a daily newspaper, a weekly political magazine, Madame Mapo magazine, and the publications of Mapo Editions. Mapo Media stands out in the Albanian press as the product of ambitious professionals who believe that independent, straightforward journalism is possible. Mapo brings integrity, a commitment to the truth, and unbiased analysis to the Albanian reader. Mapo Editions as a new publishing house brings a new dimension to the readers. In the words of Mr. Cili, director of Mapo Publishing, this initiative follows the traditions of the best international media groups, which besides the periodicals have their own publishing entities to approach the reader comprehensively. Significant achievements in publishing the works of bestselling authors such as Ben Blushi and Blendi Fevziu make Mapo Editions one of the elite publishing houses in Albania.
Vatra was appointed to develop the advertising campaign for Mapo periodicals, redesign the layout of the magazine, and to develop the first advertising campaign for Madame Mapo. The advertising campaign needed to address the generally disillusioned readers and to get across the message that there is in the market an independent publication that speaks the truth straight and clear. The challenge was to attract new readers for Mapo magazine and newspaper. From the outset, the request was to produce a dynamic and creative campaign. The advertising campaign for Madame Mapo needed to bring to light the commitment to visual genius, investment in storytelling and bring women to the center of culture, through a selective, optimistic editorial eye. Mapo Editions was engaged in the publishing of Ben Blushi’s new book and based on previous successful cooperation invited Vatra to design the cover of all Blushi’s publications as well as the book promotion event/reception and book fair stand. The requirement was to express visually the rich vocabulary of the writer and the sophisticated philosophy of his writings.
“Straight to the point” was the slogan that Vatra used to launch the advertising campaign. Initially we worked on the graphic case of Mapo, redesigned the header and the layout of the magazine and designed the newspaper. The advertising campaign was based on the transmission of the message clearly and creatively through origami objects made from newspapers presented in black background and tagged with a quote for every object, expressing cleverly each message. The advertising campaign included four short TVCs and indoor-outdoor advertising. “In one way or another, women always get what they want” was the main quote used in the Madame Mapo advertising campaign in which the magazine’s editor, Ms. Iva Tico, simply and optimistically introduces the new magazine. For hundreds of women each month, Madame Mapo has become the eye of culture, inspiring and challenging them to see things differently, in both themselves and the world. Vatra designed a unified image for all Blushi’s books to create an identity that is easily recognizable. The cover of the book “Albania” particularly shows a reality that the book strives to depict. The cover is elaborated with elements that express ideas included in the book and messages from a past reality. The communist five-pointed star was the central symbol of the country in those days. Painted in a brick wall the star was the typical image found on every street. The paint, the color, the bricks and everything else tease the memories of the Albanian mind and also represent the message of the writer. Later on, we redesigned the two previous publications of the same author with a similar style and design, thus completing a triad of Blushi’s books with coordinated design features.
